Fundamental Stocks is the outcome of passion for the Indian Equities for both of us. We have been a part of the markets since the late 1990s and have been through the IT bull run, the subsequent bear market and now the seemigly never ending bull run. We are also proud to have been students of one of the most successful individual investors in India who teaches at our B-school. We decided to put our experience and passion to good use by creating FS. FS is a collction of ideas, research and know hows to invest in the Indian stock markets in a very different way.

How do people value a company the way they do? Why do millions of investors always form a part of the so called herd mentality? Are there more simple ways of understanding and analysing companies which we plan to ivnest in. Yes we do know that the primary motive for any one to invest in stocks is capital protection with returns. This objective is the same at all classes of investor levels be it retail or instituional. Then why do large institutions end up making money and small investors loose out?

No straight answers for these questions. What we have attempted to do at FS is to try and unravel the way companies are analysed. Do we always have to follow the fact based approach followed by research houses, when you are investing at an individual level. We do believe that there are millions of factors at play which decides the prices of stocks besides the numbers churned out in the annual reports.

Yes we have had our fair share of success and failures in the equity markets. Some of our most successful investments have been Financial Technologies, Bharti Airtel, Pantaloon Retail, IFCI , Piramyd Retail where we have multiplied our money between 2 to 30 times. Some of our disastrous investments have been Astra Microwave, Dish Tv, Kotak Mahindra Bank where we have lost alomost 50% of the value. Profits and Loss are 2 sides of the coin. If we were to know how to make money we would have been the richest people on this planet. But that doesnt seem so.

But what we do hope is to analyse companies in a different way here, which you will get to know about by reading our short reports. This will help all of us invest over a period of time and earn decent returns in a more consistent way. Also we intend to hopefully clear some of the mysteries as to why markets are excited about some companies and not about others.
